Cat-Nap Wednesdays

Well . . . I guess she is a cat and is "well" just like the box says.

Northern Lights

We really . . . lucked out. Driving home from an event last night it dawned on us that it was not a night fog of sorts that we were driving into, but northern lights! We were so taken by them that we pulled off to the side of the highway, turned off my car and stood up through the sun roof!

It was our first time seeing them in person and my first time photographing them. I know there are lots of better shots out there, but I was content with this first attempt once I got home to my camera. They had faded quite a bit by the time I had it hand though.

It was quite the talk around our area and we heard that they could be seen throughout Canada down to Tennessee.

When I just got outside and set up my tripod I started hearing an Eastern Screech Owl in the background, perhaps 75 yards away or so. This along with seeing David Sedaris in person shortly before made it truly an eventful day. Hope yours was too.

A Study in Leaves

I was ready to post a series of shots on leaves. I noticed one pic, however, that really struck me in multiple ways. It seemed that one pic could give rise to several nice pix if I studied it a little using some creative cropping. I still plan to post more on leaves, but I liked what I found in this one and hope you do too.

Sugar Loaf Resort

Waiting for snow . . . and repair.
There seems to be a general consensus of sadness when discussing Sugar Loaf Resort among locals. It was a nice place to ski and has so much potential, but it just cannot seem to make a comeback. Maybe someday. Still, it is beautiful and I hope these pictures do it some small justice.

Fall Dunes

We came across a new hike to us called Arcadia Dunes Nature Reserve. The hiking trails were recently completed and it was a wonderful surprise when coming upon it, serendipitously, on a beautiful fall drive just south of Frankfort. We plan to go back!

For scale, Michele is on a trail on the far right middle of the pic.
The main trail onto the dunes. This dune is called "Old Baldy".

Fall Shots of Courthouse

I know it might be odd to take pictures of our local courthouse. But, it's a cool, beautiful area located right on the Boardman River. It was just asking to be photographed--hope you agree.

Fall Days

As you may know, we love the fall so much that we got married during this gorgeous time in northern Michigan. Over the last week or so we have been able to take in the splendor in some record breaking heat; we truly lucked out.
