Not Quite a World Record, But Fun Nonetheless!

The Flotilla was even attended by pirates.

Suttons Bay did not break the Guiness World Record for the largest floating raft of kayaks and canoes. The record still stands at 1902 and we hit 1750. Read more here. Close . . . and I think we are going to try again next year. Here are a slew of miscellaneous shots of the event. And it was truly, "an event." Check out the time elapsed vid by our very own and very talented photographer, Ken Scott. I've been a huge fan of his for years.

Hopefully, next year I'll be posting again, but it will be on breaking a record!

It is the attempt at a World Record: The Suttons Bay Floatilla!

On Saturday, September 1, our village attempted the world record and raised funds for our schools at the same time. The current record is 1,902 kayaks and canoes floating together as a single raft--paddles up--for 30 seconds or more. Click here to see info on the current record and here to see a great shot of it from National Geographic.

We do NOT know yet if we beat the record. We are expecting it to be close. The officials have to count via zoomed aerial photos (hence the photographer in the plane!) each and every craft. We hope to know within the next week or so and we'll blog more pix with the results. 

It was a very fun, crazy day in our town, but we just . . . went with the "flow."
